Who we are
Our organization
Fundación SODIS for Latin America is a private, independent and non-profit institution. Our work is to promote solutions aiming to improve access to safe water and, consequently, improve the health of families from rural and peripheral areas. To this end, we co-operate with the public, private and development sectors.
Our partner network
In 2008 we had supported more than 80 partner institutions in implementing over 160 projects in 7 Latin American countries, benefiting more than 1.6 million people in the region. During that time, we had also trained over 4.000 technicians, communicators and representatives for our partner institutions, and 40.000 community representatives and leaders. We are now working with over 1 million people in 6 countries.
In order to be successful, we seek for a synergistic work with organizations which, from different perspectives, have an interest in helping Latin American families improving their access to safe water:
- We have signed co-operation agreements with institutions from the public sector (Health Ministries, Water Ministries, municipalities, universities, etc.), the private sector (companies) and the development sector (NGOs, United Nations' agencies, donors and more), aiming to provide them with technical assistance.
- We collaborate with universities and research centers specialized in safe water and health-related areas.
Our scientific support
Furthermore, our work is scientifically supported by the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) through its Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries (Sandec) and by the Water and Environmental Sanitation Center (CASA) from San Simón University (UMSS) in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Our donors
Thanks to our proved efficiency and the critical nature of our job, we have received support from internationally respected sponsors, such as the AVINA Foundation (Switzerland), the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), the Switzerland and Luxembourg Lions Club, Michel Comte's Water Foundation, the Jürg Weber Foundation, EAWAG/SANDEC, the Swiss Red Cross, the SOLAQUA Foundation and more.
