"My name is Valerie Grosscup and I am volunteering with Jonathan Spear for the SODIS Foundation in Cochabamba, Bolivia. We are volunteering for SODIS for a total of six months. We are currently working on a campaign for “Global Giving,” a website that helps NGOs raise money and awareness for their cause. Volunteering for SODIS has given us the chance to get a feel for working in an office, how advertising works and other important skills necessary for working in any office. Working for SODIS has also given us the opportunity that we wouldn’t otherwise have; we get to see the beautiful scenery that surrounds the city of Cochabamba, and the people who live and work there. Yesterday, we went to a neighborhood called 1 de Mayo. We talked with a SODIS volunteer who helps promote safe-drinking water and sanitation in this neighborhood. We visited different families who use SODIS and their houses. In this town we talked with a woman that is very motivated in purifying her water. She allowed us to photograph and videotape her family using SODIS for the Global Giving campaign.
